Dr. El-Hawary has a B.Sc., University of Alexandria, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, University of Alberta. He taught at COPPE, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the Engineering Institute of Canada. He received the Engineering Institute of Canada’s Canadian Pacific and the Julian C. Smith Medals. He is Founding Editor, Power Letters, Power Engineering Society, is Associate Editor for two Power Systems' Journals. He authored ten textbooks and monographs, is Editor of the IEEE Press Power Engineering Series, and Electrical Power Engineering, McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology. He consults frequently for utilities and governmental organizations and taught over 100 professional development offerings in numerous parts of the world. He is a distinguished lecturer for the Power and Energy and Industry Applications Societies, and IEEE Canada.
