IEEE Accomplishments

  • A group of senior IEEE Volunteers are presently promoting the idea of making books from IEEE Press as part of the membership benefits in order to advance their careers and recognize their status as members. I represent the Member and Geographic Activities Board in this endeavor.
  • I have conceived an ongoing feature published in IEEE Potentials, the Magazine for our students under the title “My First Job” where I invite and coordinate articles written by senior professionals sharing their experience as they have entered the work force for the first time.
  • In 2003 the IEEE Board, added the category of industrial and practical contributions to the profession to the Fellow evaluation process. I was part of the group who promoted this concept.
  • I proposed to PES Governing Board creation of the Power Engineering Letters, and was Founding Editor (1998-2004,) establishing its operational foundation framework.
  • As Chair of PES Life Long Learning Committee, established a framework for a cutting-edge program of tutorials.
  • The Power Engineering Series of IEEE Press is recognized as the premier book publishing program world-wide. As Editor-in-chief, I develop overall policy, acquisition philosophy and author recruitment for power engineering books.
  • As 2004-2005 Secretary of IEEE, provided volunteer leadership in streamlining IEEE documents to achieve consistency and clarity.
  • As 2002-2003 Director of Region 7, formalized the IEEE Canada Web site as a major unifying instrument for the Region. I created a tradition of visiting more than 70% of the Sections in the region, and lead Anniversary Celebrations, such as Region 7, and Toronto Section Centennial, and the Winnipeg Section 50th Anniversary.
  • As Region 7 Past Director, I crafted the Region Bylaws to reflect the new Governance model approved late in 2004.
